Somerville & Wilson (ISM / HELL YEAH Recordings)
Somerville & Wilson Bio
Meeting through mutual friends in late 2011, Richard Somerville and Craig Wilson started talking music and life. They quickly realised that they had a strong mutual love for a wide variety in musical tastes across the dance spectrum including a massive passion for Nu Disco and House.
Never pigeonholing themselves to one style when making or playing music, the more they talked the more it became apparent that they had met their musical match. So of course the next natural step was to get in the studio together and see what came out of the newly found “pandora’s box” that is ‘Somerville & Wilson’.
Within the first session in the studio the boys soon found that not only did they have similar tastes when producing, but an uncanny knack of producing together via something akin to osmosis.
Blending a love of old skool vibes with modern textures and flavours, the boys new they were onto something special with their productions. After finishing 4 tracks and putting them up on their Soundcloud Page, they started to not only get props from around the world including the comment “powerful and evocative! Well done” about their track “Get Me Up” from Italian global stars “Ajello”, but also interest from labels started to appear. In May 2012 the boys signed to the UK label ‘Funk Me Recordings’.
With 4 tracks “Get Me Up”, “50Watt Meg”, “Love Threshold” and "Soul Traffic", and three Remixes signed to ‘Funk Me Recordings’, 2012 started shaping up to be a busy year for ‘Somerville & Wilson’.
Great things just kept rolling on for the boys in 2012. And after sending some tracks to uber Italian Label ‘HELL YEAH Recordings’, which caught the ear of label boss Marco “PeeDoo” Gallerani, the boys were given the honour of remixing the Bergen classic “The Aspens Turning Gold” by Velferd, alongside Crimea X and Marco Dassi, which was released late 2012 to great acclaim from DJs and producers from around the world. They received praise for their remix from DJs such as Mighty Mouse, Severino Panzetta (Horse Meat Disco), Verdo and Kostya.
In April 2013 Somerville & Wilson’s EP “Le Tropique & Folding Angels” was released on Italian Label ‘DWDK’ (Danny Was A Drag King). The release received great props from artists such as Tensnake, Mighty Mouse, Q-Burns Abstract Message, Bottin, Luv Shack records Simon LeBon, Ettore Sorrentino to name a few.
And to boot, they are the first Australians to have a release on ‘HELL YEAH Recordings’ and ‘DWDK’.
Make sure you check out their original track “MELT”, which is out now as a 12” vinyl release as part of a four-track vinyl sampler EP for the release “Music For Balearic Gabba Dreams” on ‘HELL YEAH Recordings’. “MELT” was also included in the digital compilation “Music For Balearic Gabba Dreams” which is part of Danish music legend and multi award winning Kenneth Bagers “Music for Dreams” Compilations.
2014 was for Somerville & Wilson a year that they firmly made their mark in the global underground scene.
Massive UK label ‘Cr2’ picked up “MELT” and included it in their “Blue Marlin Ibiza – 2104” Compilations. The feedback from this has already caused a stir in the deep disco world, including been a staple track for Running Back Label’s chief “Gerd Janson” in his sets at Berlin’s infamous Panorama Bar.
The boys then signed 2 tracks “Girl Down” and “Humid Disko” to UK producer/Dj Yam Who?’s label ‘ISM’ (Midnight Riot), with remix duties by label boss ‘Yam Who?’ and the super talented ‘El Diablo’s Social Club’. They were then chosen by ‘ISM’ as the artists to be on the labels 50th release with their EP “Sua Speciale/Cenobite”, which included remixes from the UK’s “Chris Massey” and Spain’s superstar “Rayko”. Both these releases charted strongly in the Top 40 in the Juno Download Charts.
Their “Loyale Royale EP” on ‘DWDK’ (Danny Was A Drag King) was played around the globe, and their track “Cero Gravity” was included on Italian supremo Dj Rocca’s Compilation “A Night Out With Danny Vol 2” [DWDK].
UK label “tici taci” headed by scene stalwart Duncan Gray, and one of the labels spearheading the “Chug” or “Slo Mo Disco” revolution, then had the boys do two remixes for the label. First one was for Irish crew “Future Bones” and their track “Dirty Profit”, and the second remix was for “Mr Cogs” AKA Duncan Gray track “Cogs”. Both of these tracks have been road tested to great acclaim by the legendary Andrew Weatherall at his gigs across Europe and beyond.
With Podcast mixes for Italian site ‘Mischio Dischi Disco’, Vienna based label ‘LUV SHACK Records’, ‘Pulse Radio’, Melbourne crew ‘6am At The Garage’ and Sydney radio show ‘Rhythm Nights’ in the bag, 2014 was indeed a rather large year for ‘Somerville & Wilson’.
2015 has already started with a bang for S&W.
Their original track “Frozen Rooms” was picked up by UK label “Paper Disco” [Paper Recordings] and included in their annual compilation “Trash The Wax Vol 2”. This compilation sat at #1 on the Juno Charts for quite some time.
‘Nein Records’ main man Neil Parnell/Tronik Youth asked the boys to remix Wiliam Earls track “Loveless” for the label. Their remix once again received plays from the Guv, Andrew Weatherall and many others in the Chug scene across the globe.
Spain’s superstar Producer/Dj “Rayko” has had the boys do a remix of his track “Radioactivity”, which is out now at Juno Download, and causing a stir on the Nu Disco scene.
And with Duncan Gray, from ‘tici taci’, getting S&W to do a remix of the massive track “Eridu Eridu” by the Romanian/Bucharest twins the “Gemini Brothers”, 2015 is going to be an even bigger year for S&W!
So keep your eyes and ears peeled folks on this fast rising Production/Dj duo from Australia.

Pushing her inimitable style and eclecticism of vocal house, bump and grind electro and dirty rocking beats lands Ish as one of Australia’s most in demand DJs.
Residing in Brisbane, this ARIA chart DJ has been spinning all around Australia and Europe from Malta to Italy; to dominating the entire Australian east coast. Combined with her extensive knowledge of music, Ish’s adaptability and ability to quench the musical thirsts of a plethora of audiences excel her demand in the Australian Dance arena.
”Congratulations are in order for our Music Editor, DJ Ish, who wowed Sydney, Interstate and International women at this years Official Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Recovery party. Ish brought the house down with her uplifting set of sexy sounds and dirty beats – the crowd couldnt get enough from Brisbanes favourite DJ Diva. Riding on her success, Ish was invited to play an extra set to close the night, it was the first time Ish had played in Sydney and also the first time a Brisbane DJ had played at the official girls recovery at Mardi Gras” – Q News Magazine, Australia
For Ish, her set is not only about the music she plays, nor the number of bodies she fills a dance floor with. The core of Ish’s talent lies in her alluring energy which allows her to connect with her audiences. Her high energy sets the tone for an atmospheric avalanche of adrenaline.
Spinning at all of the biggest lesbian and gay events in Australia, not only is Ish the leading female DJ in her home town of Brisbane with her residences at The Wickham, Brisbane Queer Film Festival and the renown Fluffy & Glam parties at Family. Ironically, Ish’s fan base is double outside her home city within the larger capital cities with her landing gigs across Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Tasmania, Northern NSW and the Gold Coast.
Playing at “Girlfest” (Sunshine Coast) – Australia’s version of The Dinah weekend in USA, Ish spun to thousands of girls who had flown in from all over the country and the world, three years running. Her dominance in the lesbian market also sees her with permanent appearances at the two biggest Australian lesbian dance parties Lick Melbourne, Lick Sydney and Girl On Top which attract nearly 3000 women between them. Ish has also played for the leading nights in Sydney such as Moist, Mardi Gras Recovery, Mardi Gras Pool Party, ARQ and has been the resident DJ of Australias biggest street party Big Gay Day, since it begun 10 years ago, where she plays to audiences of over 5000 people. Within these events, Ish has supported some of the best international acts featuring Kelly Rowland, Freemasons, Potbelleez, Luciana, Ruby Rose, Havana Brown, Zoe Badwi, Jessica Mauboy and Inaya Day just to name a handful. And just recently, Ish has landed a spot at New York City’s premier Lesbian Bar – Henrietta Hudson, spinning on April 5th during her USA circuit.
And now, expanding her talent and innovation into producing her own music, we are about to be taken to a whole different world of creativity and Ish Mashing. If theres one thing about DJ Ish that thousands who have graced her dance floor will vouch for is that this Australian mixtress is musically mesmerizing. Be prepared to be aurally astounded.

With a DJ career that spans over two decades and a desire for music that surpasses most of us mere mortals, Rob’s DJ pedigree dates back to the Eighties in London where he was the co founder/promoter and original DJ of the infamous and notorious DIRT BOX which produced London’s first illegal warehouse parties. Which paved the way for the capital’s forthcoming rave scene.
Rob’s popularity as a DJ also saw him with residencies at some of London’s top clubs at the time such as Oliver Peyton’s RAW with Dave Dorrell and the Electric Ballroom in Camden alongside Jay Strongman. He was also a regular at Philip Salons Mud Club and the Wag Club. As well as resident DJ at some of London’s biggest and hippest clubs and one off events around the UK. Rubbing shoulders and turntables with some of the biggest and now legendary DJ names.
Rob left the UK in 1988 to set up home in Sydney Australia. On arrival in Sydney he was responsible for setting up the omni present LOVE parties with Sugar Ray, which pioneered the huge Sydney house scene in the early Nineties. And was resident at the world-renowned Vibes on a Summers Day and Sydney’s freshest funkiest parties at the time Funk Inc.
Over the years Rob has played at most major Sydney and Australian clubs and bars and was co-promoter and resident DJ of Sydney’s infamous Kings Cross club the Underground Café. The late lamented HIGH TIMES & DELICIOUS nights were two of the most popular club nights in Sydney’s clubbing history. They were the epitome of all that was good about the house scene - no hype, no bulls**t, just pure sexy house! Both nights ran for an incredible seven years from 1995-2002 and were constantly voted in the top three club nights in Sydney, with Rob being touted as one of the best “funky” house DJs in Australia. And the club was one of the first to book international DJs on a regular basis. With some of the UK and US top DJs playing virtually every other week. After the closure of the Underground Rob took up resident DJ slots at Home and Yu as well as guest spots at clubs all over town. And was a regular on Sydney’s airwaves – hosting his own daily Mon-Fri afternoon shows on Radio Dex and Rhythm FM.
He then immersed himself into music production releasing two of Australia’s biggest house tracks- the anthemic (and still much sort after) “Same Old Thing” by LOVERUSH (voted Australian dance track of the year by 3D magazine) and the excellent follow up “Love 2 See Ya (Dancin’)”. Both tracks were picked up for release in the UK on Credence and Azuli records respectively.
Rob was also responsible for putting together the essential “GROOVE ORIGINALS” compilation series. Which consisted of those original soul/funk and disco tunes that were being sampled for today’s dance tracks. Which was a formula that preceded the huge influx of similar compilations from around the world.
Recently Rob has been taking more time out in the studio to record an album and various single projects. With notable releases like “Keep it Right There” by ULTRAPHONIC on Sydney’s prolific Hussle label and ‘All Over Me” by Body Corporate on Casa Del Disco which encompass all the essential ingredients that makes you wanna dance your ass off – which is all together an apt description of his DJ sets. Rob has recently returned to his native UK and back in Londons East End and is currently working hard in the studio with a handful of funky house releases imminent.
